A Beautiful Fall San Sophia Overlook Wedding in Telluride: Tips, Info, and More

M + L have been in love with Telluride since forever, it holds a very special place in their hearts! They had a San Sophia Overlook wedding and partied at The Peaks Resort after. This wedding included my bride making her own wedding cake (!!), some cutie pups, perfectly overcast weather, a quick coffee break in town at The Cowboy Coffee, and a reception full of laughs, tears, and great dancing! Check out this blog to learn more about getting married at San Sophia Overlook and to see more of Michela & Lou’s gorgeous day!

Ceremony Site Overview
San Sophia Overlook sits at 10,540 ft atop the Telluride Mountain Ski Resort and is, understandably, one of the most sought-after wedding locations in all of Colorado. It offers spectacular, 360-degree views of the striking San Juan Mountains and overlooks the super-cool town of Telluride.
The ceremony site features a flagstone granite path that leads to a wide, wooden deck overlooking Telluride. Surrounding the deck is a grassy (or snowy, depending on the season) area which accommodates up to 250 of your favorite people.

Accessing San Sophia Overlook
It’s easy to get to San Sophia Overlook. If you’re coming from town, you just hop on the free gondola in town and get off at the first stop, the San Sophia Gondola Station, which is near the top of Lift 7. If you’re traveling from Mountain Village, it might take 1 or 2 stops depending on where you get on from. From there, you out the station doors along a gravelly, wide path, past the yurts and towards the ceremony site . In the winter, you will likely have to take a snowcat to the site. Imagine those pictures!!

Tips for Getting Married at San Sophia Overlook
- If you’re traveling to the overlook from Mountain Village, give yourself a good chunk of time to get to the top–especially if you have a dog and are limited to the dog-friendly cabins. With everyone wanting to get to town for fun and shopping, you might have to wait a bit for an open cabin.
- Sunscreen is your friend! There is no shade or tree coverage at the ceremony location so you’ll be exposed to all of the UV rays that Colorado has to offer. Speaking of no tree coverage, you and your guests will be fully exposed to any wind coming up and over the mountain. Plan for chillier weather than what the weather apps suggest for the area!
- If your pups will be a part of your ceremony, consider hiring pet attendants to help care for them while at the overlook! Puppy’s Plus One is a great option!
